Bhu Nga Thani Resort & Villas Railay

We had an absolutely incredible 3 night stay at the Bhu Nga Thani. Every member of staff we met were all so incredibly friendly and helpful - always with a smile! The rooms were much bigger than average, huge comfy beds, very clean. Stunning views of Railay and very peaceful. We slept very well here! Breakfast was fantastic and the restaurant setting was lovely - very peaceful. Railay is busy so we enjoyed exploring early morning then spending our afternoons around the pool - which was a highlight. 2-5pm is happy hour and Boy and the other pool bar guys we met made the most INCREDIBLE cocktails (the frozen daiquiris were huge and delicious!) It is BOGOF during these hours and it’s a great family vibe with the music playing and enjoying the pool. We ate dinner here one night too and the food was fantastic - (salmon and soba noodles I can recommend). Overall, a super stay and I would love to return!

I want to give this place five perfect stars, but I think a rating of 4.3 to 4.5 is about right. My wife and I stayed in a Villa with a private swimming pool, and that was a game changer for us. This may be the only way we can travel now. Ha! As for the room, it was spacious and comfortable. There are some signs of wear and tear, scuffs, chipped paint, but if you're not too picky, that shouldn't be a problem. I imagine because of the remote location of the hotel, it's probably a bit more challenging keeping the place perfect. Staff was friendly, though we didn't ever really get to know them well except for (Boy) at the restaurant. He was lovely and enthusiastic. The location for me being on the east side of Railay was excellent, because it keeps you away from all of the beach going tourists. It's also right near the dock. Getting to the beach's, was a breeze and is not an issue from this location. Lot's of shops and restaurants along the east side as well. I would definitely stay here again, but I just wish the price was a little less expensive. Not to say that it isn't worth it, but it may be a little higher than it should be. I can't compare it to other hotels on the peninsula though, so maybe the price is where it needs to be.

We had a fantastic stay at Bhu Nga Thani Resort & Spa. 5 stars all the way. The rooms were very well kept, modern, and comfortable and the resort itself is beautifully designed with a big, open layout full of lush plants and greenery.

The location is also excellent, right by the pier and an easy walk to the other beach where there are plenty of food options and restaurants.

The staff were the real highlight, incredibly friendly, helpful and genuinely accommodating throughout our stay. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble.

The pool is amazing as well, with a truly gorgeous backdrop that makes it the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Nice Enough, But Ultimately Overrated

Located on Railay, this hotel looks good on paper and in photos, but in reality it feels more like a three-star hotel that’s had money spent on it, rather than a genuinely high-end resort. It’s fine - but for the price, it falls short.

We stayed in a one-bed villa with a private pool. The space itself was good, the room was a nice size, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom layout worked well with a separate shower, toilet, and a large bath. To their credit, there was also plenty of hot water, enough to properly fill the bath - something not always guaranteed in Thailand.

However, at around £400 per night, it felt at least £150 per night too expensive, and that’s where the issues start to show.

⭐ Pros:
• ️ Spacious villa with a comfortable bed
• Large bath with consistent hot water
• Separate shower and toilet layout
• Private pool (nice in itself)
• Issue handling gesture offered (see note below)

⚠️ Cons:
• Significantly overpriced for the quality and experience
• Poor attention to detail: smudge marks, worn furnishings, tired finishes
• Shower design issues: no soft-close glass, unclear hot/cold markings, controls working in opposite directions (very easy to get scalded)
• ♻️ Heavy use of disposable plastic bottles on a semi-island location — disappointing given all waste must be transported off
• Marketed as a resort and high-end spa — it’s neither
• No spa facilities, treatments, or massage rooms
• Location is right by the main pier and footpaths — not secluded or peaceful
• Main pool gets crowded quickly and sits right next to a footpath
• Very family-heavy — lots of young children around
• Fine if that’s what you’re after, but not ideal if you’re looking for peace or a more adult-focused stay
• Breakfast was underwhelming
• No fresh orange juice
• No tea or coffee offered at the table
• Eggs station very basic (mainly omelettes)
• Other items often cold rather than freshly prepared
• “Private” pool not actually private
• Overlooked by another building
• Room 807 sits directly behind the pool bar
• Loud, low-quality music bleeding into the villa
• Ferry pickup was confirmed by email but forgotten
• Despite prior confirmation, it was missed due to other check-ins

✅ Overall Recommendation:
This hotel isn’t bad — but it’s overhyped and overpriced for what it delivers. It feels like a decent mid-range property trying to present itself as something far more premium without the service consistency, attention to detail, or facilities to justify it.

If you’re coming to Railay and want a genuinely high-end experience, Rayavadee Resort is the clear standout. It’s the prime location on the beach and, with advance booking, often not much more expensive than what we paid here — but on a completely different level in terms of execution and experience.

Fine if expectations are managed, particularly for families, but there are better-run and better-value options in this area if you plan ahead.

I've now tested out Railay Bay ( Great views, outdated but they're returning), Sand Sea Resort (over ten years ago) and Railay Village Resort (best one on west side) and I'm so glad we decided to give Bhu Thani a go. The rooms are clean, modern and lovely. Aircon works great, modernt TV entertainment channels and overall service is lovely and breakfast is the best. What wins me over is the pool and the plentiful beds. No vulture snatching like the other resorts, drinks are great poolside service is also brilliant.

Only feed back is the slow check In and check, but but also please please please update your poolside playlist. You now ruined the every breath you take by the Police with it's awful remixes
