Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary Krabi (Booking is needed)

I approached the visit with some hesitation, largely because the word sanctuary can be misleading in this context. These elephants are not typically rescued from the wild or removed from dire circumstances; more often, they are animals sold by farmers who can no longer care for them or no longer have use for a working elephant.
It’s important to recognise that these are domesticated, working animals—much like horses have been in Europe and elsewhere. With that perspective, the coexistence of such facilities and the tourism industry becomes easier to understand.
Despite my initial doubts, I left feeling that I had genuinely learned something. The experience overall was positive. The mud and water bathing activities felt somewhat staged, but participation is optional, and it doesn’t detract from the broader value of the visit. Ultimately, the place is worthy of support, and I’m glad I went.

My first visit to see and interacted with the elephants was very exciting and fun. Mr. Mia, the instructor, was very professional and knowledgeable about the elephants. Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary – A Wonderful, Heart-warming Experience!

We had an amazing time at Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary. The entire experience felt respectful, safe, and very family-friendly. We enjoyed every part of the interaction — from feeding the elephants to preparing their food, and especially the mud and water bath session. It was incredible to be so close to these gentle giants and see how well they’re cared for.

Our child had a great time too! The staff were patient, kind, and made sure even the little one felt comfortable feeding and interacting with the elephants. Watching the elephants splash around in the water was the highlight for all of us.

The sanctuary focuses on ethical treatment, and that really shows. No riding, no force — just pure fun and bonding with the animals.

Highly recommended for families and anyone looking for a meaningful, joyful experience in Ao Nang!

We went at the end of October so I have nothing and I have nothing great things ro say about our experience! We were the only people there during our 1-3p time slot.

The staff was incredibly helpful in educating us about the sanctuary ethical practices & showing us the proper way to feed the elephants, bathe them with mud and then we ash them and guided us through this unforgettable experience with so much kindness. They took excellent pictures & videos for us the entire time.

They also have plenty of snacks and drinks to keep you refreshed.

Lastly they have a shower area and towels so we were able to immediately wash off.

Lovely experience! We got to feed the elephants, make food for them, gave them a mudbath and a bath afterwards. Very professional staff and a great and funny guide :) we were served food and drinks aswell.
